Growing Cress with Children

Growing cress with children is a simple yet fun activity which can be enjoyed year round. Design your own cress heads to double the fun! Be sure to print our guide.

You will need:
An egg shell and egg cup -or- a yoghurt pot
Paints or pens
Cotton wool
Cress seeds

Process:
Step One: Take the label off the yoghurt pot or clean the inside of the egg shell
Step Two: Paint a funny face on the egg or pot. Why not try one of our designs?
Step Three: Put some damp cotton wool at the bottom and spread cress seeds on top
Step Four: Leave on the windowsill, keep moist and watch your cress grow!

Cress grows incredibly fast. You should be able to harvest it after 1 – 2 weeks. If you don’t know how to use your cress why not try it in salads, soups and sandwiches!
